Product tour

See Marji work — in 53 seconds.

The real dashboard on our sample bistro: invoices reading themselves, dish margins repricing live, and the QR menu updating the moment a price is approved.

The problem

Restaurants lose 3 to 5 points of margin a year — usually without noticing.

Wholesale food costs change every week. Beef goes up forty cents, eggs up nine, butter up a dollar a pound. None of those changes triggers a menu update on its own. By the time the quarterly P&L lands, the burger that used to make $9 is making $7.10, and the brunch plate is barely breaking even.

The average independent restaurant gives back three to five points of margin a year this way — not because owners are careless, but because nobody has time to recost forty recipes every Tuesday. Marji does that work in the background, so you find out the same week the price moved, not the same quarter.

How it works

How Marji's food cost software works.

  1. 01

Upload supplier invoices and your menu

Photograph your menu, then snap or forward supplier invoices — Sysco, US Foods, Restaurant Depot, your local distributor, anyone. Marji reads every line item — no manual data entry.

  2. 02

We track every food cost change automatically

The moment butter goes up nine cents, every dish that uses butter is recosted. Recipe costing and dish-level margins update across your whole menu in real time.

  3. 03

    Get clear menu pricing recommendations

Plain-language fixes: “Raise the burger to $16.75.” “Switch beef to Vendor B and save 12%.” You approve each one and apply it in your own POS — Marji works alongside any register, and needs a connection to none of them.

Step 02 is the part most tools make you build by hand. How the recipe costing works — including a plate costed line by line, with the yield math shown.

Included free

Scan your paper menu once. Never reprint it again.

Photograph your current menu and Marji types up every dish, price, and section for you — costed, margin-tracked, and live online in about a minute. Because it reads from the same ledger that tracks your margins, every price change you approve updates everywhere the same second: your online menu, your Google listing, the printable PDF for your tables.

  • Menu scanning — a photo or PDF becomes your costed dish list in about a minute
  • Always-current menu link for Google, takeout counter, and delivery — QR optional, printable PDF included
  • Prices sync from the margin engine — no stale laminated menus, no reprint bills

Dashboard

One dashboard. Every dish on your menu. Always current.

See real recipe costs, food cost percentages, and dish-level margins for your entire menu. The numbers update the moment a new supplier invoice comes in.

The Marji menu margin ledger — 15 of 15 dishes, each row showing food cost, menu price, margin, distance from target, weekly leakage, a 30-day cost sparkline and weekly units. Classic Burger is flagged Reprice at 48% margin, seven points under target, leaking $456.27 a week.
The menu ledger, sorted by leakage. Sample restaurant: Olive & Oak.
A Marji price recommendation: raise Classic Burger from $14.50 to $16.75, recovering margin from 48% to 55%, with the evidence listed — beef up 18% since April 2 on Sysco invoice INV-2241, 203 burgers a week from Square, and the six-ingredient recipe on file.
Every recommendation shows its evidence and what it recovers.
A Marji invoice detail view: Sysco INV-2241 read by OCR, five line items mapped from raw invoice text like GROUND BEEF 80/20 10LB to the ingredient Ground beef 80/20, each with quantity, unit cost, line total and an OCR confidence score.
An invoice after OCR, with every line mapped to an ingredient.
The Marji overview screen on a phone-width viewport: a market alert about eggs up 11% since January, the weekly margin leak of $456.27, an 81% average dish margin, and three pending recommendations.

The same screens work on the phone in your apron pocket — which is where invoices actually get photographed. Nothing in this section is a design mockup: every image above is the app running on our sample restaurant's numbers.

Market watch

When your beef invoices jump 18%, you'll know which dishes it hit.

Marji watches costs from both directions: the wholesale staples every kitchen buys — beef, eggs, butter, chicken, coffee — from federal price data, and the prices on your own supplier invoices. Then it does the part cost reports skip: it crosses each move with your recipes and names the dishes whose margin is exposed.

  • Commodity charts and outlooks, refreshed weekly
  • Per-menu exposure — every affected dish, quantified in margin points
  • Competitor Watch (Operator plan) — scan a rival's menu and see your price position dish by dish

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Does Marji work with my POS system?
Marji works alongside any POS, and requires a connection to none of them — it reads your menu from a photograph, so nothing depends on your register. You apply approved price changes in your POS yourself. Square write-back is built but not switched on yet; Toast is planned. Our [integrations page](/integrations) lists the real status of each one.
How long does setup take?
Most restaurants are live in under 30 minutes. You upload your menu, send a few recent supplier invoices, and Marji calculates the cost and margin of every dish.
Can Marji read paper invoices?
Yes. Photograph paper invoices with your phone — Marji reads photos and PDFs from any supplier the same way.
Will food cost tracking actually save my restaurant money?
Do the math on one dish: a plate leaking $2 against your target margin at 100 covers a week is $200 a week — more than three months of Marji. If it doesn't find anything worth fixing, cancel — no contract, and the trial needs no card.
Who can see my recipes and supplier data?
Only you. Marji never shares your recipes, costs, or supplier list with other restaurants or with your vendors.
Which suppliers does Marji integrate with?
Any supplier. Marji reads invoices from Sysco, US Foods, PFG, Restaurant Depot, Cheetah, and local distributors alike — photograph them or upload the PDF. Direct EDI feeds are on the roadmap.
